Privacy and terms
How NZ Limited Licence (NZLL) handles your personal information under the Privacy Act 2020, and the terms of our document service.
What we collect
When you apply or talk to us, we collect the information needed to prepare your Limited Licence application. That includes your name and contact details, your licence details, the details of your suspension or disqualification and your driving history, your work or business, the vehicles, hours and places you need to drive, anyone who depends on you driving, and documents you upload, such as a suspension notice.
When you send your application, from this website or our phone app, we also record basic information about the device and browser you used: whether it is a phone, tablet or computer, its operating system and browser and their versions, the phone model where your browser tells us, your screen size, and whether you used the app from your home screen. We use this only to see how applications reach us and to fix problems with the form. We do not use it to identify you or to follow you around the internet.
When you use this website we also collect information about your visit through cookies (see Cookies and tracking below).
Why we collect it
- To check whether you can apply and prepare your application documents
- To prepare your documents and explain how you file them at the court and serve them on the NZ Police Prosecution Service
- To contact you about your application
- To keep proper business records
- To understand how our website is used and to measure our advertising
We do not use your information for anything else, and we never sell it.
Who we share it with
- The District Court and the NZ Police Prosecution Service, as your application requires
- People who sign supporting documents, such as your employer for their affidavit, only as far as their document needs
- Service providers who run parts of our business for us: website hosting and the database our application form saves to, an artificial intelligence service that reads the suspension notices you upload so we can check the dates, and Google (Analytics, Tag Manager and Ads) for website measurement
Some of these providers store or process information outside New Zealand, for example in the United States. They handle it on our behalf and only for the purposes above.
Sensitive information
Your documents may refer to sensitive matters, such as a drink driving conviction. We treat this with discretion and share it only as described above.
Keeping it safe
Information sent through this website travels over an encrypted (https) connection. We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires, and then delete it.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Call us on 0800 437 005 or see our contact details. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner: privacy.org.nz, 0800 803 909.
Cookies and tracking
This website uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and Google Tag Manager to load Google Ads tags that measure which ads bring visitors and let us show our ads to people who have visited. These set cookies in your browser.
If you choose "No thanks" in our cookie notice, these tags are switched off in your browser. You can change your choice at any time:
You can also turn off personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com.
Terms of our service (summary)
- NZLL is a document-preparation service. We do not give legal representation and we do not appear in court for you.
- We prepare your documents from the information and instructions you give us. Before you sign your affidavit, it is your responsibility to make sure every fact in it is true and accurate.
- Preparing your documents does not guarantee that the court will grant a Limited Licence order. That decision rests entirely with the court, and issuing the licence rests with NZTA.
- Court filing fees, NZTA fees and any other third-party fees are separate from our fee and are paid directly to the relevant authority.
- Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
